Scripture Discussion - Nineth Sunday of Ordinary Time

2 Corinthians 4:10 - We carry in our bodies the death of the Lord.

Master of the Sabbath

What rules enslave you today? Is there something that keeps you from the Lord's table, perhaps a misunderstanding from long ago?

Open your heart to the love of Jesus Christ today and take the first step that will free you from your entrapment. Maybe you need to make an appointment with someone who can help you begin to do so, or maybe you need to make a phone call or write a letter that begins a process of reconciliation.

Begin by asking God to help you and know that God's love is present as you proceed.

Discussion

1. What rules do we follow in our Church today? Think of the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. How are they similar? How are they different? What is the intended good of these laws?

2. What do you think Jesus wanted the Jewish officials to understand about the laws of God and the changes in those laws over the years? Why do you think the Jewish officials could not understand what Jesus wanted them to know?

3. What rules have you broken because you did not follow the "letter of the law" but understood the "spirit of the law" and acted accordingly?
